Mentoring & Group Activities

Tribes offer carefully planned day adventure & camp activities for young people and adults with disabilities, at-risk youth and people with mental challenges.

Our programs go beyond the ordinary. Through engaging activities and workshops that include hands-on experiences we equip our participants with essential life skills that foster independence, confidence and a sense of accomplishment. From wilderness survival techniques to effective communication strategies our Eco-mentors guide individuals on a journey of self-improvement and self-empowerment.

We believe that nature has incredible healing powers and we harness its potential through our eco-therapy sessions. Immersed in the beauty of our natural surroundings, participants can experience a sense of tranquillity, rejuvenation and connection with the equipment. Our eco-therapy activities promote mental and emotional wellbeing allowing individuals to find solace and discover their inner strength.

For young people and adults with disabilities we have a range of programs that are accessible with NDIS funding and are individually designed to meet the requirements of the participants’ NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) specific goals, providing them with challenging outdoor experiences in unique environments. Our aim is to promote personal growth, foster independence and support the achievement of individual goals. We strongly encourage our participants to embrace new experiences, as doing so helps build self-confidence, develop cooperation and communication skills and enhance personal independence. All activities take place in a safe and enjoyable environment, ensuring that participants have a positive and fulfilling experience.

Benefits of these activities include increased confidence and independence, engaging in physical activity and exercise, the opportunity to interact with peers and establish friendships, and the development of positive role models through our supportive Eco-mentors. Moreover, these programs offer parents and carers a valuable break and time to recharge.

Mentoring (including STAs/Respite)

Offering personalised support to individuals in need, including at-risk youth, people with disabilities and those facing mental health challenges, our mentoring programs stand out due to our unique approach, which combines eco-therapy, survival skills training and adventure tourism activities. By immersing our participants in the natural environment and utilising inspiring ecological locations, we create a captivating backdrop for our mentoring endeavours.

Ensuring the safety and welfare of our participants is paramount which is why all Tribes Eco-Mentors must have valid certifications and qualifications. They also possess diverse qualifications and experience in working with community service clients for various backgrounds. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.

In the past, humans relied on hunting and gathering for sustenance. Today, our hunting and gathering primarily occurs at the local supermarket. At Tribes, we tap into the intrinsic part of human nature that craves a connection with the environment. Our programs provide clients with opportunities to acquire new skills and enjoy the bounties that nature has to offer.

To enhance our mentoring and respite services, our team has access to over 50 survival skills lessons and a wealth of cultural stories from around the world. These resources are utilised based on the eco-therapy location chosen for the mentoring session. Activities may include learning about bush tucker, acquiring the knowledge to source and purify water, mastering navigation using the stars, improving physical fitness, discovering yabbies and eels, engaging in river kayaking or embarking on invigorating mountain hikes.

By embracing the natural environment and drawing on diverse cultural resources, we provide participants with the opportunity to learn, grow and experience the wonders that nature has in store.
